Know Your Peer: James Babarinde

Week eight of the Know Your Peer spotlight is here! In these posts, we interview one of the peer mentors to get their perspective on working as a Peer Mentor, studying at Sheridan and life outside of school!

This week’s post features James Babarinde, a third year Peer Mentor from the Trafalgar Campus!

What program are you in?

B.A Illustration.

What do you like to do when you aren’t at school or helping students?

When I’m not at school or helping students, I love painting, looking at art, and playing video games (which can also fall under ‘looking at art’).

Fun fact about you? (Talent, etc;):

I’m a failed soccer player. That’s a joke, but I really do enjoy sports. Soccer is my favourite with table tennis being my second.

How long have you been a Peer Mentor for?

This will be my third year as a Peer Mentor. I started mentoring students in athletics but I’ve recently transferred to the first year connections department.

Why did you decide to become a Peer Mentor?

It felt like a natural move after being involved in Sheridan and extra curricular activities.

What was your first year like?

My first year was filled with many ups and downs. This is what led me to get involved and get to know about the services that Sheridan offers. I was happy to complete my first year with all the experience I gained as it helped me to develop artistically and professionally.

Any tips you can share from experience?

GET INVOLVED. As long as time allows it, get involved in anything outside of your program curriculum.

The experience will help you grow as a person and as a student!

LAST DAY TO DROP CLASSES!!

Hello students!

A reminder that THIS coming Friday November the 21st is the LAST day to drop a class without academic penalty! If you are looking to drop a class come into the Student Advisement Centre to book an appointment for before Friday as this is the last possible day and this is when requests will be processed.

We want you to do as well as you possibly can and it’s okay if that means dropping a class. Student Advisement will help make the process and easier and more smooth process and we do not suggest trying to drop a class on your own without speaking to and Advisor first.

Fun fact about you? (Talent, etc;):

I am a wealth of useless information (except for anything Sheridan related)

3 years.

I wanted to be more involved on campus while having an impact on the Sheridan community.

Find a healthy distraction to take you away from the school mentality, whether it’s working out at the gym or hanging out with friends. Try to remember that yes you are in school but it doesn’t have to rule your life.

SSUI Emergency Food Resources

Hi everyone!!

Today I am going to swing my topic around and talk about needs. Some students out there might not know this service exist and may be in need of it. It is called the Emergency Food Resources from Student Union. This service is for students (full time and part time). The EFR provides students with emergency food packages, affordable recipes, and other resources. For more information, please visit http://www.sheridanstudentunion.com/services-section/food-bank/

For the who are fortunate to have food in their cupboards, you can help 🙂 Please donate any non-perishables items you may have and bring them to your Student Union office. Every little bit helps and it is for a good cause.

And remember folks……
Keep calm and get your donations on (and your study on)
