Know Your Peer: Vishakha Shah

Week nine of the Know Your Peer spotlight is here! In these posts, we interview one of the peer mentors to get their perspective on working as a Peer Mentor, studying at Sheridan and life outside of school!

This week’s post features Vishakha Shah, a second year Peer Mentor from the Davis Campus!

What program are you in?

Bachelor of Business Administration (Global Business Management)

What do you like to do when you aren’t at school or helping students?

Help the community through Enactus, take part in case competitions, shop and watch tv shows

Fun fact about you? (Talent, etc;):

Professional Dancer, International student from Dubai

How long have you been a Peer Mentor for?

2 years

Why did you decide to become a Peer Mentor?

I have always wanted to be the first one to welcome first year students on campus and having a lasting impression on their minds. I choose to commit myself to being compassionate, empowering, and enthusiastic and to cultivate a community that is respectful, supportive, and open-minded. I feel finding a career that I live and love is something I want to go towards and be able to share this thought with the new students that come in as well.

What was your first year like?

My first year was scary. As an international Student, this was a new place for me. Working with people from different backgrounds, cultures and experiencing a completely different system of learning was over whelming. However, the resources at Sheridan and the friends I made by getting involved helped me go through it a lot easily.

Any tips you can share from experience?

Get out there! Be involved and be known. Remember a goal is not always meant to be reached, it often serves simply as something to aim at.
